National Youth Homelessness Scheme

About us

The National Youth Homelessness Scheme originated in Government's commitment to tackle and prevent youth homelessness announced by Ruth Kelly MP in November 2006. The Communities and Local Government Homelessness Team has commissioned this website and is pursuing a number of other initiatives geared to enabling local authorities to respond to young people's needs through effective youth homelessness strategies.

Other initiatives include:

  • work with Relate to develop and implement a Homelessness Mediation Model
  • promoting exemplar schemes of Supported Lodgings provision
  • work with the Department for Children, Schools and families (DCSF) to develop good practice on joint working.
