The Gateway area of Tower Hamlets covers Canary Wharf and the Lower Lea Valley. The Lower Lea Valley offers five square miles of opportunity to establish a new quarter for London, anchoring the western end of the Gateway firmly at the heart of the London's future prosperity.

Canary Wharf is a prime driver of London's recent economic success and has already nearly one third of the employment in the London Thames Gateway. Employment is expected to grow from 82,000 to 120,000 jobs by 2016.
