The O2 venue in Greenwich is being transformed into a world-class leisure and entertainment destination with a new 23,000 seat arena for music, entertainment and sports.
Up to 24,000 jobs could be created through the provision of 343,600 sq m of employment and office space, 33,750 sqm of retail space and extensive community facilities to go alongside further developments on the Greenwich Peninsula.
The first phase of the complex will be open in July 2007. Around the arena under The O2 roof, there will be an 11 screen cinema, a live music club with a capacity live music club, an exhibition building and 14 bars and restaurants. A new public square, the size of Leicester Square, will open at the same time and link The O2 to North Greenwich Underground station.
The O2 will host various events including Gymnastics World Championships in 2009 and the basketball and gymnastics events for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
