London Thames Gateway holds the key to the future expansion of London as a world city, and to the continued economic growth of the Greater South East.
The London Thames Gateway (LTG) is home to around 500,000 people. It includes 10,000 hectares of land along the riverside of seven east London Boroughs: Barking and Dagenham, Bexley, Greenwich, Havering, Lewisham, Newham and Tower Hamlets. The London Plan proposes that, over the next two decades, almost half of the capital's new homes will be built in these boroughs. Canary Wharf and Stratford, Lewisham and Woolwich town centres will accommodate very substantial employment growth. Canning Town, Barking, Lewisham, Erith, and Rainham amongst others offer considerable potential for mixed use development.
