This guide is aimed principally at local authorities. It provides detailed guidance on the making, management and enforcement of tree preservation orders (TPOs). Trees in conservation areas and trees and development are also covered.

Following important changes to TPO procedures, which came into full effect on 1 October 2008 and on 6 April 2009, we have published an addendum to this guide, together with a revised Model TPO. You can download these documents by following the link to the addendum below.
