Summary

This consultation paper seeks views on four proposals to improve the tree preservation order (TPO) system:

(1) the introduction of a standard form for all applications to fell or prune trees which are protected by a TPO;

(2) a more streamlined method for processing TPO appeals, where decisions are based chiefly on material gathered at the application stage;

(3) the transfer of TPO appeal administration from the nine Government Offices for the Regions to the Planning Inspectorate; and

(4) revised requirements on local planning authorities regarding the circulation of newly made TPOs.
