Summary

It was reported that planners are not giving sufficient weight to the economic benefits of proposed development. In December 2007, Communities and Local Government launched a consultation on the draft Planning Policy Statement 4: Sustainable Economic Development.

The draft text urged planning authorities to respond positively to applications to carry out economic development, and make fuller use of land, while having proper regard to social and environmental considerations, especially climate change. This summary reflects the views of 321 organisations and individuals who responded.
