Core Strategies are a key part of the new local planning system introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. They are intended to enhance the strategic role of local authorities, and set the vision for spatial change and policies in the area.
The findings reported here tell us about the strengths and weaknesses of the work prepared by five different local authorities in implementing this part of the new planning system. The report provides practice pointers for local authorities and others to consider when developing core strategies in the future.
