Local development schemes are a new tool for local planning introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 with the aim of ensuring that the preparation of Local Development Frameworks is well managed. The findings reported here tell us what local authorities and Government Offices have achieved so far in implementing this part of the new planning system. The report also provides practice pointers for local authorities and others to consider when revising and using local development schemes in the future.
The Summary below provides an overview of the main findings and recommendations from the report.
The accompanying response, also below, to the findings and recommendations explains to authorities and stakeholders how relevant work is being taken forward.
Note: The above publication was issued by our former department, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). ODPM became Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on 5 May 2006 - all references in the text to ODPM now refer to Communities and Local Government.
