Summary

The review of the sustainability of existing buildings aims to identify ways in which existing buildings (both dwellings and non-domestic buildings) can be modified to improve their sustainability, in particular their energy and water efficiency. This report, which represents only one element of the review, provides an initial analysis of the existing housing stock and the measures that can be taken to improve their energy efficiency. It summarises the evidence base against which decisions will be taken on policies that could help to increase the uptake of these energy efficiency measures.
