Summary

This Annex, published in March 2005, to Minerals Policy Statement 2: Controlling and mitigating the environmental effects of mineral extraction in England is a statement of the policy considerations in relation to dust from mineral workings and associated operations, and how they should be dealt with in local development frameworks and in considering individual applications.

Appendices briefly outline information on the nature of dust, give examples of methods of reducing and controlling dust, and outline good practice in dust assessment.

The Government expects Mineral Planning Authorities (MPAs) in England to have regard to this Annex alongside the policies contained in the MPS2 overarching document.

Note: The above publication was issued by our former department, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). ODPM became Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on 5 May 2006 - all references in the text to ODPM now refer to Communities and Local Government.
