Summary
On 21 May 2007, the Government published the Planning White Paper
Planning for a Sustainable Future. A consultation paper entitled
Improving the Appeal Process in the Planning System: Making it proportionate, customer focused, efficient and well resourced was published alongside the White Paper, and the consultation period ran for three months.
The consultation paper proposed some fundamental changes to how the appeal system operates, as well as some changes to existing procedures, aiming to deliver an appeals system that is more proportionate to the type and complexity of each appeal, has improved customer service and efficiency at its core, and is better resourced.
This report summarises the responses received on each of the appeals proposals. It also sets out the Government's response and outlines the intended way forward for each of the proposals.
