Summary

This divisional letter informs Building Control Bodies about the provisions in the Statutory Instruments The Building (Electronic Communications) Order 2008 (SI 2008/2334), and amendments made to:

  • the Building Act 1984
  • the Building Regulations 2000 (as amended)
  • the Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations (as amended)

The provisions will come into force on 1 October 2008.

The main change is the addition of a new section 94A to the Building Act which sets out the conditions under which the specifiedĀ building control notices and documents may be given or served electronically.

A brief guidance note to help the adoption of electronic building control document communication has also been published as part of this divisional letter.
