The Place Survey Technical Manual aims to provide Local Authorities all the information required to run the survey in their localities, including the timetable for the survey, sampling methods and the sampling frame, options for running the survey in two tier areas, and how to submit survey results to the Audit Commission. The manual also provides advice on the strategies local authorities can use in order to maximise response rates.
For access to the most up-to-date information about the Place Survey, including answers to frequently asked questions and tools/templates to assist those carrying out the survey, please visit the Place Survey website via the link on the right.
Please note: The Manual was revised in January 2009. The revisions relate to the National Indicator templates on pages 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 37, 39, 40, 41, 42, 44, 45, and 46. These page numbers relate to the previous version (page numbers may have changed as a result of the revisions). The revisions are mostly minor (eg background information about the British Crime Survey and removal of duplication in further guidance sections) with the exception of pages 29-30 (revision to the formula and worked example for NI 17), page 33 (revision to the worked example and decimal places for NI 22), page 34 (revision to the formula and worked example for NI 23), and pages 44-46 (revision to the name, definition, formula and worked example for NI 138).
