Summary

This publication below gives final detailed definitions for 198 national indicators following consultation on their proposed definition. Following receipt of the responses and discussion with other Government Departments, the Government has decided to drop one indicator, NI 31 - Re-offending by registered sex offenders, and added one new indicator on play - NI  199.

185 national indicators will come into force on 1 April 2008. The remaining 13 indicators will be subject to further consultation in the summer before final definitions for them can be released.

Update

A series of National Indicators have been updated since the Handbook of Definitions was published in April 2008 and is available below (see Related Publications). Changes include clarifications to the definitions, updated guidance on calculating the indicators and some changes to how the data will appear in the Data Interchange HUB (e.g. decimal place and return format).

Deferred and Revised Indicators - There were 13 indicators including 10 delayed indicators (NI 26, 32, 38, 54, 57, 71, 127, 128, 190 and 199) and 3 (NI 123, 130 and 137) current indicators, where the measurement was revised, that were consulted on from 28th Sept 2008 to 31st October 2008 (see below).

The suite of Place Survey indicators have been updated with changes made to the technical definitions. Please refer to the latest Place Survey Technical Manual (see below) for the latest set of technical definitions.
