Openness and accountability in local pay: draft guidance
Draft guidance for local councils and fire and rescue authorities to promote openness about their employees' pay.
Documents
Details
Local councils and fire and rescue authorities are required to prepare pay policy statements. These statements must set out an authority’s own policies on a range of issues relating to the pay of its workforce, particularly its senior staff (or ‘chief officers’) and its lowest paid employees.
The statements must be:
- prepared for each financial year, beginning with 2012 to 2013
- approved by full council, or a meeting of members in the case of a fire and rescue authority
- published on relevant authorities’ websites
This guidance is published in draft. The deadline for comments or views was 16 December 2011.
