Summary

This paper summarises evidence about the role of elected members in the development and implementation of community strategies.

The paper draws upon a range of evidence from the evaluation including light touch and main case studies with a range of local authorities, surveys of local authorities, reviews of community strategies as well other elements of the Local Government Modernisation Agenda (LGMA) meta evaluation. The initial findings from the evidence were presented to a workshop hosted by the Policy Research Institute (PRI) and Communities and Local Government held in Leeds in March 2007. This paper also draws upon the views of participants at the workshop.
