Summary

On 6 February 2008 John Healey, Minister for Local Government, announced in Parliament the Government's decision to request advice from the Boundary Committee of the Electoral Commission on the unitary proposals made by Exeter City Council, Ipswich Borough Council and Norwich City Council in January 2007.

The Boundary Committee has been asked to respond to this request for advice by 31 December 2008 and to consider whether there are alternative unitary proposals that would deliver quality public services, value for money, stronger leadership, neighbourhood engagement and hold a broad cross section of support.
