Summary

The Local Government White Paper, Strong and Prosperous Communities, issued in October 2006, indicated the Government's intention to put in place a clearer, simpler and more proportionate code of conduct for local authority members. This consultation paper represents the detailed amendments needed to put the Government's undertaking to amend the code of conduct into effect. The paper provides an explanatory commentary on the proposed amendments set out in the revised draft code, and invites the views of consultees on the detailed proposals. A revised draft code is enclosed at Annex A.
