Summary

In April 2008 Communities and Local Government published the discussion paper Rough Sleeping 10 years on: From the streets to independent living and opportunity, to inform development of an updated government strategy.

These documents report on the responses we received to this discussion paper. The quality of the responses to the discussion paper was very high, and some clear themes emerged.

Some respondents identified specific service gaps in their local areas (for example for alcohol or migrants), but these were balanced by examples of successful, innovative approaches for the same groups in other areas. Many highlighted the need for more effective prevention across the country, to stop the flow into cities and onto the streets.
