Summary

Living in overcrowded accommodation can have a devastating effect on families. If a home is overcrowded it can affect health and educational attainment and can impact negatively on life chances.

In December 2007 the Government outlined its strategy to tackle overcrowding. This self-assessment toolkit is intended to support housing providers by offering practical tips on how to develop their own strategy and action plan to assist those households worst affected by overcrowding.
