We published two guidance documents in May 2004 to help a wide range of bodies with planning and decontamination of buildings and infrastructure following CBRN incidents - whatever the cause.
Both documents contribute to the continuing process of strengthening resilience through encouraging organisations to understand the issues and the part they have to play and to prepare accordingly. Partnership between organisations is seen as key to the effective response to an incident and rapid recovery from it.
Strategic national guidance on the decontamination of buildings and infrastructure exposed to CBRN substances or material sets out procedures for decontamination and the roles and responsibilities of those involved. That includes business, emergency services, local authorities, government departments and other agencies. The document comes under the Home Office CBRN Resilience programme and complements guidance on decontamination of people (Home Office) and on decontamination of the open environment (Defra).
