Summary

The latest statistics on previously-developed land produced by Communities and Local Government were released on 29 August 2008.

Previously-developed land, often called brownfield land, is land that was developed but is now vacant or derelict, and land currently in use with known potential for redevelopment. This report shows results from the National Land Use Database of Previously-Developed Land (NLUD-PDL) based on information collected in 2007.

In 2007 there were an estimated 62,130 hectares of previously-developed land in England, down 1 per cent from 62,730 hectares in 2006.
An estimated 33,600 hectares of previously-developed land were vacant or derelict, 54 per cent of the total. The remaining 28,520 hectares were in use but with potential for redevelopment.
