This research was commissioned by the Department for Communities and Local Government to better understand the potential for visualisation solutions to analyse and communicate intelligence, and provide guidance for national and local analysts on making the best use of visualisation.

In particular, the research was commissioned to:

  • assess and appraise the current range of visualisation solutions - what visualisations are being used by public sector and elsewhere?
  • provide advice on the decision-making process for selecting visualisations at different levels of the government delivery chain - is there a useful typology of visualisation solutions, and what are the most appropriate visualisation options for particular purposes?
