Summary

The Department, in partnership with the Audit Commission and the Local Government Association, commissioned this external review to better understand how to strengthen support to local partners in using local information and research in decision-making. The investigation has probed the following questions:

What are the sources of demand for local information and research?
How is research carried out locally?
How is local information and analysis currently supported by national, regional and sub-regional organisations?

This report includes recommendations for national, regional, and local organisations for strengthening support for local partners.
