Summary
New Deal for Communities areas have a range of problems that underly high locarates of worklessness rangingĀ from structural changes that have affected traditional sources of employment, infrastructure issues such as poor transport links to areas offering employment to issues affecting individuals such as poor health, poor skills and a lack of information.
This paper draws out lessons from four NDC programmes' efforts to tackle worklessness, giving examples of progress made, the problems faced andĀ projects used to address them and provides a guide to some of the issues relevant to neighbourhood level interventions to tackle worklessness.
The findings and recommendations in this report are those of the consultant authors and do not necessarily represent the views or proposed policies of Communities and Local Government.
