Summary

This research summary outlines development of a typology as one approach to explore the functional roles of deprived neighbourhoods. A key element in better understanding these roles is residential mobility - the flux of people into and out of neighbourhoods - and this is what the typology is based on.

Such understanding is important for policymakers, since it is likely that the most appropriate types of policy intervention in deprived neighbourhoods will depend in part on the roles that the different neighbourhoods play.

This summary accompanies the publication 'A typology of the functional role of deprived neighbourhoods'.

The findings and recommendations in this report are those of the consultant authors and do not necessarily represent the views or proposed policies of Communities and Local Government.
