Summary

This report describes results from a preliminary investigation of the value of a spatial microsimulation technique in the estimation, for each English Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA), of the incidence of income poverty as measured by the proportion of households whose income is below 60 per cent of the GB median household income (HHBMI). Results for 2001 using the FRS 2000/2001/2002 and the UK Census 2001 as well as for 2005 using the FRS 2004/5 and a synthetic restricted variable 2006 Census are presented. The report concludes that further work is recommended.
