Summary

This release provides headline findings from the first and second quarters of the 2007-08 Citizenship Survey, covering 1 April 2007 - 30 September 2007. The release covers active and empowered communities; community cohesion; and racial prejudice and discrimination.

The Citizenship Survey is a face to face household survey carried out by Communities and Local Government covering a representative core sample of almost 10,000 adults in England and Wales each year, plus a minority ethnic boost sample of 5,000.

Since 2007, the survey has moved to a continuous design, allowing the provision of headline findings on a quarterly basis. The first release was published on 4 October 2007 and covered April - June 2007. A detailed annual report for 2007/2008 will be published in summer 2008.
