The House of Commons ODPM Housing, Planning, Local Government and the Regions Committee published its report on the Coalfield Communities on 16 March 2004.
The Government welcomes the Committee's investigation and report into the Coalfield Communities which raises a number of issues about how the regeneration of these communities should be taken forward.
The report acknowledges that good progress has been made, both through the National Coalfield Programme that brings former coalfield sites back into productive use and through the work of the Coalfield Regeneration Trust that delivers social regeneration to these communities. But the Government accepts the Committee's view that much still remains to be done and that progress in some aspects of the work are more advanced than in others.
This publication represents the Government response to the Committee's conclusions and recommendations.
