Annual Minerals Raised Inquiry

Since 1973 the Annual Minerals Raised Inquiry (AMRI) has been the principal source of data on non-energy mineral production in Great Britain. AMRI contains data on the extracted sales of chalk, clays, crushed rock, dolomite, granite, limestone, peat, ore minerals, salt, sandstone, sand and gravel, slate and other minerals, together with employment for each quarry type. It is an indispensable source of data widely used by Government, planning authorities and industry to assist land use planning and decision making for the supply of minerals in Great Britain. It is also used in national accounts and to meet the obligations of EU regulation.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) carries out the AMRI survey under Section 1 of the Statistics of Trade Act 1947. Under the Act a mineral operator is required to provide all relevant information asked for. The data is treated in confidence. The results of the AMRI surveys are published in Minerals Extraction in Great Britain Business Monitor PA1007 and can be viewed and downloaded from the ONS website (external site)
