The award was announced at a gala dinner at Madam Tussaud's in London on 24 April 2008 by Micheal White, assistant editor and political columnist for The Guardian.
The awards are organised by Kable, publisher of Government Computing magazine and Europe's leading independent provider of publishing, events and research, in the public sector field. The judges included Andrew Bowen, head of programme office of OGC; Andrew Stott, head of service transformation and deputy CIO for Delivery and Transformation Group at the Cabinet Office and Jeremy Boss, MD of Corporate Resources and CIO at the Audit Commission, among others.
Chris Kendall, the Planning Portal's Director said:
"I am delighted that the National Standard Planning Application Form, (1APP) was voted winner of the 'Best project - delivering efficiency' category at the GC Awards for Innovation 2008.
The introduction and roll out of 1APP across the country was led by the Planning Portal team. However it was only possible to deliver such an innovative project with the support of all the stakeholders, in particular the Local Planning Authorities. Everyone involved in the project deserves acknowledgement.
I believe that the Planning Portal and this project in particular, exemplify a new way of delivering services across the central / local Government divide. Working together we can realise the vision of a more streamlined and efficient planning process which serves citizens and business in the most effective way."
