Communities and Local Government has confirmed a £40m PFI credit boost for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service to build four new fire stations today.
The new stations will improve incident response times in the community, help reduce accidents, injuries and deaths in Gloucestershire and provide a focal point for safety messages and information within the community, as well as state of the art working facilities for fire fighters.
A major part of the new development will be a new Community Life Skills Centre, which will be located at the Shepherd Road site.
Terry Standing Chief Fire Officer for Gloucestershire said:
"We are tremendously excited to be developing this project which will meet the safety needs of these two large communities. The financial support which Central Government is providing towards the project makes this very cost-effective for the County Council and of course the council tax payers of Gloucestershire. The life skills center will provide a ground-breaking contribution to reducing the unnecessary numbers of unintentional injuries, accidents and deaths which not only my service has to deal with but all of my colleagues in the emergency services, primary care trust, education and adult services."
