Data Interchange Hub

From June 2008, the new Local Area Agreements (LAAs) will be the principal means by which the Public Service Agreements (PSAs) are delivered. The indicators will significantly reduce burdens on reporting - the single national set of indicators will replace around 1,200 current measures.

The National Indicators were announced alongside the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR07). Following a consultation on the detailed definitions, these were published early in 2008, for implementation from April 2008. A reporting mechanism has been established to ensure that data only needs to be collected once.

This reporting mechanism is the Data Interchange Hub - 'The Hub'.

The Hub has been introduced with two main aims:

  • To reduce the burden on collecting data for local authorities.
  • To ensure that local authorities have all the information that they need to gauge their own performance against the National Indicators.

The completely new structure will aid analysis and policy making, facilitate benchmarking and reduce unnecessary repetitive data inputting. The Hub will gather published information from across government to provide a one-stop location for all stakeholders.

National Indicator updates

The four National Indicator tables available to download below, are frequently updated to provide information on the current NI status for:

  • National Indicators uploaded into the Hub (83) (updated 1 September 2008)
  • National Indicators existing which require a recalculation (52) (updated 1 September 2008)
  • National Indicators which are new (62) (updated 19 May 2008)
  • National Indicators to be supplied to the Hub by local authorities (updated 1 September 2008)

Please note that the Technical Definitions hyperlinks have been added to the spreadsheets to save time cross referencing to the Handbook.

Important note: Not all of the definitions of the national indicators have been finalised and published at this point. The definitions which the Hub provides in the "metadata" include some which remain to be finally confirmed and published, but in those cases are the most accurate currently available. For an authoritative view on indicator definitions, please refer to the Technical Definition Handbook (see publication link below) for more information on each individual indicator.
