Local government

National projects

The National Strategy for Local e-Government was published in November 2002. The strategy created national projects covering key priority services provided by local authorities. The aim of the projects was to ensure all councils have access to key electronic services and building blocks, without having to build them from scratch.

The projects pulled together councils, central government, the private sector and others to define and deliver projects that offer national solutions. The products from the national projects have now been migrated to safe homes, mainly with local authorities.

Background

The main Local e-Government Programme concluded in December 2005 following the successful delivery of Spending Review 2000 Public Service Agreement 4: "To improve the delivery and value for money of local services by assisting local government to achieve 100 per cent capability in electronic service delivery by 2005, in ways that customers will use."

The development of the National Projects was a collaborative exercise with local government.
