Local government

e-Government efficiency, support and capacity

For councils, e-Government developments are a major opportunity for achieving efficiency gains, within all service areas, and the awareness of new ways of serving customers identifies effective ways of redeploying those gains into front line services.

Local strategies and local determination of 'what fits', and how to use it are vital to success. The December 2005 Implementing Electronic Government Statements (IEG5) return from local authorities showed total expected efficiency gains from investment in local e-Government of £1.1 billion from 2004/05 to 2007/08.
