Celebrating e-government success

All local authorities in England were supported with £0.9m, in IEG capital funding, via the Local e-Government Programme to help them meet the 2005 (PSA) BVPI157 target and priority outcomes.

As part of the Programme, certain councils led on national projects, local partnerships, national capacity building and e-innovations. Local councils worked with central initiatives and departments, such as LGA, Communities and Local Government, IDeA, and Cabinet Office eGU,  to ensure product delivery and success.

March 2006 IEG6 returns from all local authorities in England show that:

  • the average local authority is now 98 per cent e-enabled
  • 84 per cent of Priority Service Outcomes delivered (on 'green') by the end of March and 15 per cent in the active process of being delivered (on 'amber')
  • the residual 2 per cent of e-enablement is accounted for by legal or operational barriers, allowed within the definition of Best Value Performance Indicator 157 (which measures local authority performance against the 2005 target)
  • local authorities also identify £1.1 billion efficiency gains from investment in Local e-Government from 2004/05 to 2007/08
  • around 15 million individuals (unique users) visited local authority websites per month during 2005/06, this figure is part of a rising trend.
