During the 2004 Spending Review period, covering the financial years 2004-05 to 2007-08 inclusive, councils in England were required to submit Annual Efficiency Statements to report their progress on the achievement of efficiency gains. Three types of statement were collected from councils each year (except 2004-05, where only the last of these was received):
The Annual Efficiency Statement process has now been discontinued and councils report similar data through National Indicator 179 (NI179), as part of the new National Indicator Set (NIS). Guidance for councils on how to measure and report NI179 can be found on the efficiency information page.
For more information about the NIS and the Data Interchange Hub through which NI179 will be reported by councils, see the National Indicator pages.
All the statements received from councils during 2004-05 to 2007-08 are archived here.
