Partnerships and local area agreements

A Local Area Agreement (LAA) sets out the priorities for action in a particular area.

The agreement is between Central Government and the local area.  Central Government is represented by the regional Government Office and the local area by Local Authorities and other important organisations.

These organisations - like the health authorities, police, businesses, voluntary and community groups - are drawn together in an umbrella group known as a Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).

The LSP draws up a Sustainable Community Strategy setting out the priorities for its area. It aims to get the whole community involved in developing and implementing the strategy and the Local Area Agreement.
