Lifting the Burdens Task Force review of Department for Communities and Local Government: Housing and Planning

Published: February 2007.

Lifting the Burdens Task Force report into ways in which housing and planning burdens on local authorities can be reduced.

The first report from the Lifting the Burdens Task Force on housing and planning burdens imposed by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The report calls for unnecessary performance indicators to be amended or abolished, puts forward a series of modifications to the planning system and community engagement and calls for a more robust link between planning and the Local Area Agreement.

Key messages from the report include:

  • Reduce duplication in collating and reporting data by collecting information once and using often
  • Reduce the time and effort reporting new outcome indicators as well as the actual number
  • Modify the Local Development Framework rather than overhaul it.
