This section provides data for the sale and transfer of local authority and registered social landlord dwellings, in England and the English regions. It includes details of the number of applications made under the Right to Buy scheme, as well as numbers of sales, related selling price and discount information.
The main source for England data is the P1B Quarterly Housing Monitoring return. This gives information at district level for all local authority council house sales as well as housing capital expenditure. Details for registered social landlords come from the Regulatory and Statistical Return (RSR) and Continuous Recording (CORE) return to the Housing Corporation.
The Progress on Council House Sales quarterly tables (see Live tables on social housing sales) give both the total number of council houses sold or transferred since April 1979 and specifically those which are sales under the Right to Buy scheme for England and include a regional breakdown. A complementary table gives the Right to Buy sales numbers reported by each English local authority since the introduction of the scheme in October 1980.
A separate detailed list of Large Scale Voluntary Transfers (LSVTs) completed by local authorities in England (maintained by the Decent Homes Division), can be found in the Housing Transfers section of this website.
