The Neighbourhood Statistics Service (NeSS) has been established in response to the recommendations of Communities and Local Government Social Exclusion Unit's Policy Action Team 18 (PAT 18).
These include that new data should be developed which would be comprehensive, standardised across the whole UK and capable of both regular updating and of being produced at the neighbourhood level. (For detailed background on Neighbourhood Statistics including the PAT 18's Better Information report, visit Research and Statistics on the Neighbourhood Renewal website.)
NeSS is funded by Communities and Local Government, which is directly responsible for producing the housing and physical environment datasets that are published on the Office for National Statistics website.
This section provides background information on neighbourhood statistics, news and reports on the progress of new datasets and data developments projects. Published datasets can be viewed or downloaded from the NeSS homepage of the National Statistics' website. The exception to this is the 2001 Dwelling Stock by Council Tax Band Ward level dataset which can be accessed below.
