Housing renewal (including Disabled Facilities Grants)

This section covers data associated with private sector renewal activity only.

It includes the number of dwellings improved (divided between vulnerable and non-vulnerable households), cleared or demolished as well as grants and loans. The latter two are given by local authorities to improve their private sector stock and for meeting the decent homes target. Recent housing renewal grant figures do not separate out renovation, minor works assistance and common parts grants. Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) data are available separately.

There is also some detailed historical housing renewal data. It includes grants data which are sub-divided by grant types e.g. renovation, minor works assistance, common parts and Houses with Multiple Occupation (HMOs) grants. Other historical data include unfit private and HMO dwellings, the causes for the unfitness for these dwellings and the actions taken on them e.g. the number demolished or closed and the number given grants to make them fit again. Old data on the number of demolitions related only to slum clearance areas are also available.
