A list of organisations with Approved Lending Institution Status under Section 156 of the Housing Act 1985.
Section 156 of the Housing Act 1985 enables lenders to social tenants exercising their Right to Buy to secure the first charge on a property ahead of the landlord. Under the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008, high street banks and building societies will continue to have automatic approved lending institution status and, with effect from 22 September 2008, all authorised mortgage lenders, as defined in section 622(1) of the Housing Act 1985, will also have automatic approved lending institution status.
