Fire and resilience

Migration to Regional Control Centres

Within the Fire and Resilience Programme, the Firelink project is integral to its sister project FiReControl. A critical part of the Firelink project is providing a single communication system between Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) vehicles and the nine new Regional Control Centres (RCCs) being established by the FiReControl project.

One of the key Firelink aims stated in the project business case is to provide the communication between the RCCs and FRS vehicles, otherwise known as inter-FRS communications. To do this, the Firelink project will provide the installation of Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) with touch screen technology in FRS vehicles.

Using FiReControl software the MDTs will enable those in FRS vehicles to communicate with RCCs using data, in conjunction with the provision of Firelink radio equipment giving voice capability.

For details of the Firelink project phases, please see the Project Overview section.
