Fire and resilience

Wider impact of FiReControl on the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS)

The transfer of control room activities to a network of Regional Control Centres (RCCs) and the introduction of a consistent national approach to emergency call management activities, will impact beyond the control room itself.

All firefighters across the country will adopt new and common communication practices and systems, to better support network-wide FRS mobilising and call management processes for emergency incidents.

Similarly, other FRS staff may also be affected. For example, those who engage in data management may need to support the transition phase of the project and interact with the RCC when it goes live. Others with responsibility for IT systems and processes that support the technology linking RCCs and FRSs may also experience a change in their role.

These people will receive comprehensive training and learning and development support to help them to be effective and confident in their new or changed roles.

One of the key principles of the project is to ensure that existing primary control room functions and supporting activities continue to be delivered effectively until the cutover to the new RCC. A range of techniques, guidelines and practices are being developed to help support the ongoing business continuity operations.
