Communities and Local Government contributes to cross-government resilience initiatives, and supports many aspects of the UK Resilience Capabilities Programme, ensuring that the UK is able to cope with any major catastrophic incident, including terrorist attacks. The Fire and Resilience Directorate (FRD) is responsible for the development of Communities and Local Government's resilience policies and co-ordination of its resilience projects.
Resilience Research Branch (RRB) carries out scientific and technical research in support of Communities and Local Government's resilience policies. They also work across government on other resilience-related research to ensure that initiatives are joined-up and information is shared, including participating in the Home Office Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear (CBRN) Science and Technology Programme.
