Fire and resilience

A fire doesn't have to kill you to take your life

A fire doesn't have to kill you to take your life

Previous fire safety public information campaigns have focussed on a particular area of fire safety, such as smoke alarm maintenance, or the importance of having an escape plan.

The 'Prevention' campaign, relaunched in January 2006, is ground-breaking in that it attempts to drive awareness of all aspects of domestic fire safety.

TV, radio and online advertisements stress the terrible effects of fire, in particular the huge sense of loss and guilt for survivors who may have lost family members, irreplaceable possessions.

Fire safety handbook

The advertising encourages members of the public to order a free handbook containing all of the information needed to minimise the risk of fire, and advice on what to do should one start. The Prevention campaign is buttressed by PR activity, promotion via the Partners in Fire Prevention, and local support from fire and rescue services.
