Read about the policy we follow for recruitment.
All recruitment is carried out by means of "fair and open" competition, as required by the Civil Service Commissioners' Recruitment Code. We usually recruit throughout the year as and when vacancies arise. The posts are offered on a permanent or a fixed term basis. Part time working is also considered.
Communities and Local Government is an Equal Opportunities employer. Applications are welcomed from all suitably qualified people regardless of gender, marital status, race, disability, age, or sexual orientation.
Communities and Local Government is a signatory to the Education and Employment Department's "Two-Ticks" disability scheme. Applicants who meet the minimum criteria will automatically be invited to interview.
Campaigns for administrative and generalist management grades may be held if vacancies arise in sufficient numbers. For administrative jobs applicants will usually need to have a minimum of 5 GCSE passes (grade C or above) and for the first rung of the generalist management grade there is a minimum requirement of a couple of A levels and at least three GCSE passes (grade C or above). Equivalent qualifications are also considered. The selection process normally consists of a test(s), and successful applicants are invited to interview.
We also recruit for various specialist grades. The minimum requirements for these grades will be shown in the advertisements. The selection process normally consists of a (paper) sift and if successful, applicants are invited to an interview.
All vacancies are advertised in the National Press and/or specialist media. Vacancies are also advertised on our web site at www.communities.gov.uk/recruitment
It is important that you first read the following summary of the Nationality Rules - which cover the whole of the Civil Service - to ensure that you are eligible for employment in Communities and Local Government.
