Legal recruitment

Lawyers' work and recruitment processes

A guide to our Legal Directorate

Are you interested in working as a lawyer for Communities and Local Government? In this section you can read about a typical working day in the life of two of our lawyers, and find out how the recruitment process works.

Our solicitors and barristers advise Ministers and administrators on legal issues arising from Communities and Local Government policy. They are heavily involved in implementing that policy through statutory instruments and Acts of Parliament.

Our lawyers' work covers many aspects of public law including human rights, devolution, freedom of information, European law and international environmental law. They advise on litigation against the Department, and attend meetings in Brussels, Geneva and the Regions.
